A peculiar mix of happiness and sadness

Got most of my promotional exams results back today, i did fairly ok, but definitely hope to do better for next year's A levels. Wow, the feeling of how time flies by so quickly is sinking it already, just when i thought i would be out of the fanatical preparation stage as i did for my o's a year ago, i'm being thrown into another one.

It just hit me that i'm going to be a J2 very soon, a senior of the future J1s. There is this unfathomable sense of consternation as to why time flies so quickly. It only seemed like yesterday that i took my first bold step into the often mis-leading realm of Junior College education, but now, i'm already geared up on my way to embark on a new journey It will only be a matter of time before i'll begin to reminicise my J2 life in this blog i hope anyways, if i can actually keep this blog from staganting. JC life is often filled with many pitfalls conveniently masked by friends and activities, but in all reality, JC life is Hard. Just ask any scholar and they will tell you that the toughest, most feared period of their life resides during their 2 year stint in a local Junior College. The funny thing is, eventhough it is only 2 years as opposed to say, 6 years of primary education, these 2 years hold so much weightage and literally decides the next phase of our lives, be it a University education or a life as a street bum. It often blows me away as to why these 2 years can have such a major impact on one's future way of living, his job, his perspectives, his lifestyle, his character.

The tutorials, the lectures, the depressing test results are all a facet of one's life in a JC, however puny it may be or seems to be, one cannot deny its influencing powers on our lives.

The class was strapped in silence, with the occasional gasps of "Yes!"

Should i even feel happy for my result when most of my classmates' or council-mates' results weren't as good? But of course there were the exceptional ones, but on the majority, most were peppered with a string of "O"s and "E"s. I feel guilty to express my happiness, yet i want to feel happy, not for myself, but for them if they did well enough. But as i stared in disbelievement and rattled on and on about my silly little mistakes that hindered me from augmenting my grade to a much more desired "A", i did not realise that around me, some of my friends were staring at the possibilty of retention in the eye.

Apart from the usual exclamations of regret from some top students lamenting their carelessness, the somber mood of the class kept me strapped to my seat, unable to escape from its vices. I wanted to go out and comfort them, but i didn't want them to feel that i'm patronising them. I wanted to clasp their shoulders and give them moral support, but i felt they needed to be alone. Would i have made a difference if i had actually gave them words of comfort? Would i incite hatred towards my name if i had tried to cheer them up on the basis that my scores were, at the end of the day, better than theirs?

Such is the life of a local JC student.

I've added a new dimension to my blog...introducing Phlogger

After a few weeks of deliberation, i've finally put my plan down into action, i've added Phlog into my blog. It is very easy to set up. Just go to website, sign up and within a week, they will get back to you with instructions on how to use. It is very cool.

A bit of html-ing knowledge is required as you may need to adjust some html codes if you want the Phlog window to look proper. But it sholdn't be much of a problem.

So shagged. See ya guys ard later.

Dear councillors, i've uploaded new pictures

Yes! i've uploaded all the pictures taken during and after recc-ing. Especially for the ICs of M&S, Programs and Tables, the photos may prove useful. You can find them here at

Then go under "Marina Mandarin Recce" and you'll find detailed photos of all the interiors of the ball room.

Grad day today was a moment of reflection for me

While everyone else were eagerly awaiting graduation, i took time off during the event to thoroughly reflect and review my past happenings in CJC. My conclusion? That i've not been performing as well or as good as i'm cut out for. I've let my HT down in not providing her enough evidence to vindicate her confidence in me by allowing me to assume the post of SC President.

I was alone and i had no one for accompaniment except for the raucous chatter and undescribe noises of anxious J2 shifting nervously around the audi.

I was upset, but i only had the sight of the Crucifix and Flame to bloster my spirits and cheer me up.

I was inconfident, but i had the courage of the J2s to strip me of it.

I was unsure of myself, but when i look up at the Flame emblazoned high above the audi walls, i knew what i was fighting for.

I was dissappointed with myself, but when i see my councillors working hard, not for me, but for their 29th council, i was relieve and felt re-assured.

How i admire those names brother Paul so proudly proclaimed to the rest of the school populace with pride and happiness etched so deeply into it, how i admire Peng Yam and Elizabeth for making it thus far and attaining the highest position a student can receive - that of valedictorians. How i admire people who never gave up, even in light of sheer adversity, those who overcame inconfidence and strived hard.

I believe i can be just as good, or maybe even better than them, i know i can, because i believe i can. I've not been performing well enough to vindicate me of my position or make me even worthy of my post in school. How can i call myself an "all-rounded" individual if i have a dent in one of my infinite sides? How do i proclaim loudly to my relatives that i'm the President of the SC when all i have to prove are just scribbles on a piece of paper? I keep resolving myself to achieve and attain the highest possible honors, but constantly fail to do so. It is not that i didn't try hard enough, i didn't try resolutely enough.

I do seek for help when i have problems, but i know myself best, i'm an independent learner. Whatever knowledge i gain, i make sure it is gleaned through my hard earned efforts. I do not like sponging off teachers in times of need, i want to do research on my own, understand on my own, and do well using only but my efforts. But apparently, this isn't serving me well enough. I need my results to prove the capabilities of my council board. My results, reflects their results, i cannot just let it slide.

I've let my teachers down, i've disappointed them by not reciprocating their faith in me with my results.

Tay ping Hui was from CJC and was part of the 13th Students' Council

Just had a revelation today, Tay Ping Hui was not only from CJC, he was also part of the 13th CJCSC before, including vice-captain of the basketball team coached by Mrs. Tan Seow Leng. You heard it right, my PE teacher, and now its the 29th Council, that makes it 16 years ago! 1987, wow! I was barely a year old.

Even Chen Wen Chong was from CJC. Others include Tan Kheng Hua, Phyllis Kwek ( I think) and me! Hahaha

The return of the crapper

Wow..its been quite some time since i've blogged. Heh, today was filled with fun, fun, fun and more fun! Well, the morning aside, the rest of the day today was varied and interesting to say the least. Yeap, i've uploaded some photos for you guys to take a look at.

By now you would have noticed that i've incorporated pictures into my blog. Firstly, I hope blogspot will not kick me out because of my bandwidth usage and secondly, i will update and replace the photos from time to time to ensure that my blog doesn't stagnate. Hope you guys enjoy looking at the photos.

Help, i need first aid in order to survive the horrible lectures.

Today spelt the inevitable conclusion of the 1.5 days Basic First Aid and lifesaving course, held no where else but in our dear CJC compound. Heh, today i was plagued with the sleepy bug, much like the most of yesterday. For the First time in my JC life i actually fell asleep during one of the first aid lectures on fire awareness.

I was enshrined in a cloud of sleepiness as the lecturer a paramedic actually rattled on and on about how fire, even transient ones, can harm us, kill us or mame us. Its not that i don't appreciate learning such things, its just that well, its very hard to keep awake when the lecturer is re-using same old slides over and over again. Kinda makes it dull and lifeless. Apparently, my head had a noticable attraction for the table, it kept trying to lead me into the open arms of comfort, but my neck, full of integrity and a sense of duty, dutifully kept my head off the nefarious table. As a result of such a conflict in interest, my head was sent into cycles of bobs. Yes, my head was pratically a real-life yo-yo. up..down..up....down

Wasn't alone though, practically 3/4 of the entire lecture group were

1. Playing with their HPs.
2. Stoning
3. Sleeping
4. Cursing and swearing at the time
5. Dying halfway

It was that pathetic and terrible.

The kiss of life plus a few broken ribs

Apart from the "torture chamber session" we had that put our mental and physical tenacity right to the test, i did learn how to perform Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation "CPR". Yes, i'm a certified first-aider. But don't count on me to save your life when your pulse isn't registering or your trachea is choked with God-knows-what-you-ate. Want to know the reason? Well, i think i killed the manikin while performing CPR on it. I was the first to volunteer my saliva to the manikin and while doing the compression i think i compressed on its chest too hard. My palms were practically touching the floor and its ribs were making a cling-tak-cling-tak noise with each downward thrust.

The manikin is called "Little Anne by the way, and i killed her. Its no wonder i didn't get a "very good" or a "good" for that matter. Hahah, perhaps she suffered a few broken ribs which inevitably resulted in haemorraghes, maybe a punctured lung or a seared liver, either way, if that was a real person, i would have been charged with involuntary manslaughter.

Well, i'll keep those memories behind me and surge forward with courage and fore-sight till another manikin comes along, this time, i'll be gentle.............trust me.

It seems that after watching that video of Tatu's All the things she said. I've been infected by it. Oh dear, i have to admit the tune is very infectious...i cannot get it out of my head!

I've even gone to the extent of downloading the original Russian version which is just as good. In Russia, it is called Ya Soshla S Uma, if you want to hear how its like, you can download it by clicking here

T.A.T.U is making me Kutu-ed

Just watched the Music video of TATU's All the things she said and i'm officially freaked out. In it, we see the two antagonists, TATU themselves, caressing and kissing eachother. I'm aware of the fact that they are self-confessed lesbians. But to show it so explicitly over the mass media is disturbing. No doubt the music is nice, the tune infectious, but that does not vindicate the issue of homosexuality being brought into the picture, especially since their video will be viewed by many impressionable young minds all over the world.

I respect their occupations as entertainers, but i would hope that they respect the viewer's discretion. You may think i am a uberbomber, but hey, i'm fine with homosxuality as long as it is kept underwraps.

If you'll like to see the video, you can look at it here, T.A.T.U : All the things she said

I feel that i'm not doing a good job as President of CJCSC

"Failure is the feedstock of success"
I wonder how true is it. I just heard a radio dedication done by the VJC student Council to advertise thier open house this Saturday. First thing, CJ doesn't have an open house. Which i feel is a waste. Instead, we have brother Paul playing on the role as a salesman to sell the idea of CJC being the students of affiliate school's first choice. Which need not necessarily be a bad thing considering how eloquent Bro. Paul can be and how he can captivate his audiences by just a stroke of his hand.

But i feel that i'm not doing a good job per say. I've failed in maintaining the integrity, the activities, the entire outlook of the board. I've failed the students, i've failed the council. but most importantly, i've failed myself, i've failed to reach the level of change i had originally set out for the Council.

I can only spew excuses now, but i'm not, i'm going to be frank and lay my cards out on the table. My personal motto Tempus Omnia Revelat will hold steadfast to my ambition to re-vamp the council body, raise the council's acceptance by the students and basically, improve it. I have and i do believe, my other councilites do have alot of ideas to share and contribute, but obviously, the ideas aren't forth-coming enough. Intra-council rife is also beginning to develop too and hopefully, it can be ameliorated amicably. I do hold high expectations for my council and myself, and if i fail to achieve it, i'ld rather put my badge away after retiring then to frame it up. If it has been tainted with controversy and shame, i'm gladly relinquish my position and pass it on to someone better.

But i will not give up on council and myself so easily. Positivity is half the battle won even if it were to be a pryyhic one, at least it is still a battle won. I will work on the feedback and re-route my aspirations

Dear councilites, i hope you'll stay true, commited and steadfast to your council. We are the 29th Student Coouncil and we're one that will not give up or falter easily, at least with me and Philene at the helm. We won't let it happen.

"Not hammer strokes, but the dance of water that sinks the pebbles into perfection"

My dad misses my mum, so do i

Something miraculous happened today, after my little outing to ECP with Des and gang, my dad brought me to Newton circus for dinner. didn't eat much you see. And then he asked me something which totally threw me off guard, he said

"Alan, do you miss mummy?"

Naturally, i felt out of place, my dad isn't that emotional sort and never asked or even seemed to want to ask such questions. I answered sheepishly, a

"yeah, i do lah." Then i teased my dad, saying

"Why? you miss mummy ah?" My dad looked at me then shifted his attention to his wallet and muttered "yah, a bit".

Its not that i'm saying my dad never missed my mum, its just that he never shows it, or even talks about it. My dad is someone whom you can call a quazi-MCP, he is all for male superiority and a staunch proponent of the old order of matrimony, in that the wife always listens to the husband, never the other way around. But i can feel his deep down sadness, he misses my mum alot, not that she provides him with love or care, but its that kind of bond a man and woman forges when they are married for long periods of time. A place i their heart that will forever be left void if the other partner isn't around. They need not show it to understand it, it is all part of going through the ages together, from when they first held a baby in their arms, till the day they see their children having kids of their own, and holding their future F1 offsprings in their arms.

An ode of sorts to my dad

My dad was in a solemn mood the entire journey home, perhaps it was work compounded with his emotions. My dad is a good man, he provides for the family, but takes all the hardships in lieu of us and suffers in silence. I feel guilty not ever understanding his position and always insisting on my pubescent wants and desires. I do try to give in to him sometimes, but it is hard, his lectures are a bitter pill to swallow, and over time, i've reached a stage that i can no longer afford myself to listen. But i know deep down, when it is all too late, that i will miss his lectures, his voice, his compassion, his scoldings, his anger......but definitely, him.

We never appreciate what we have till it is too late, i really cannot bare to live through the day when my parents will have to sleep forever, i know it will happen someday, but i just cannot bring myself to think it won't happen. I don't want it to, much like how my dad doesn't want my Ah Ma to, much like how my future kids don't want me to. "Its all part of growing up" my mum use to comfort me when i felt insecure and upset that one day, i'll never get to hear their voices again. But it is all part of growing up. Like what my mum will usually say,

"Life is like a book, there are chapters in it, every hardship or sad event is a chapter on its own, if you keep on reading and living, the chapter will end and a new, happier chapter may beckon, afterall, all stories usually end with a happy ending."

The house feels peculiarly quiet and empty without my mum with her usual kan qiong way of living, her silent compassion, her undying strength. By now, she would have ironed my uniform, ready for me to wear it to school tomorrow. But right now, it lies in a heap of clothes that i'll have to iron myself.

I miss my mum and i know my dad misses her too.

I miss you too dear, much like how my dad misses mummy too.

I really, seriously hope my mum is safe and comes home safe and sound Prays

Ok, for those who wants to know how to cover it up, its very simple.

Firstly, get a long pic, more like a banner. you can make one at www.Flamingtext.com

I'll just show you my html code that i cut and pasted from my coding.

img style="position:absolute;top:5;left:72;height:82;width:640"
src="http://hstrial-csc.homestead.com/29cjcsc2.jpg"

don't forget to put in the "<" and ">" signs. And remember, you'll need to upload your graphic to a webpage so that when you link it, it will appear do not obtain and link it from your computer's folder or desktop, it will not appear.

Once done, constantly alter the settings such as 'top="X"', left, height, width, etc, until you manage to actually remove the ad from view.

Simple as that.

But, if your blog's graphics is already over-lapping it, you might want to alter your table settings, such that the entire blog doesn't actually over-lap the ad. Thereafter, apply the coding and it should work fine.

You won't be removing it per say, but merely covering it away from view. Im not so sure if its allowed actually, but who cares.i know i don't..hehe

Damn, i'm good for a self-learned HTML guy Heh, Hehe, i meant to be humble..

OR! You can alternatively try this

Just delete the entire portion of the ad..find the coding, and delete it from you r template. I seriously do not know the repurcussions from this action, maybe blogger may bar me from using Blogspot. But i'm taking the risk. Just delete the entire portion of the HTML. Find it within your template. It should be there

All night Jedi Knights

Played a whole night of Jedi Knights : Jedi Academy Heh, multiplayer mode. Desmond bunked over last night and no, we didn't do anything illicit.

Was watching a re-run of Spin just now, for those not in the know, it is a crappy predecessor thar sparked of many other teenage dramas like Moulmein High and what was that? Chemistry i think. Now after watching it, i finally realise why it was canned. At that time, i felt it was good, now watching it again makes me cringe. Hah, Adult actors that try to act like pubescent kids, failed horribly in mimicking whiny teenagers like us.

Down with terrorism

Its an achievement for the effort against the devils of terrorism. Al-Ghozi, the bomber behind the bali blast was shot dead in Mindanao yesterday. Great Job Phlippines! Such advocates of the devil must be shot dead and be removed from this world we live in. These wreckers of peace, tremble our nerves and threatens our lives. Such deviants of Islam should stop making a mockery of themselves just live the way their Prophet wanted them to live - love thy neighbour and yourself.

Down with the terrorists! Idiots and souless bodies that go around carrying guns, harming innocent people all in the guise of Islam.

Which is better? Physics or Bio

Woohoo! Desmond and Halim are coming over today to play the computer. Heh.....this is the first time in my life my comp is in demand man. Halim and Des are having thier physics paper today. Just over a few weeks ago. Halim and myself were deadlocked in a verbal sparring match as to which science is better Biology or physics. i still think physics sucks...Bio rocks Yeap, we sparred for an hour plus, it was a heated match witnessed by many in the council room that very day, petrified of the extent of abuse we were hurling at eachother in a vituperative manner, they left the room hurriedly to scour the canteen for mercy and a reprieve. The match soon had reached its climatic point, its pinnacle, its apex but Halim diverged from his original course of intent to speak of how we can travel in time using something that looks like a uterus. While i bolstered his knowledge and added mine in graciously as to why halim cannot produce babies if he copulates with an elephant. Hah.

Halim and I are the paragon of science fanaticsm. We guard and are defensive of the sciences we take in relevance to our lives. Halim, lets spar sometime again...this time we do it in Chinese. its gonna be a laugh for all who witness it. it will be like two English men struggling to speak in chinese, only to end up fustrated and tongue-tied. Bah. :P q: But soon, i think we reached an amistice, we both agreed that Chemistry is the most important science, without which, both physics and Bio will not be possible. Or maybe thats because we both take it as one of our combi. Hah, how capricious we can be.

I'm listening to Jay Chou's Ba dao kong jian and enjoying every single morsel my ear is uptaking. Woots! Somehow, the music is making me think back at my first 3 months in SAJC, because that was the only CD i listened to while i was amidst the cynical and false-pretense-riddled people.

Schoolism - the bane of my existence

CJC is definitely better, at least the students are down-to-earth and not up there in the clouds, like those people at AC and SA. Cjc students are also not so quick to judge others and join clicks which is impossible to join unless you are Handsome, pretty, atheletic, sporty and from a good school (like ACSi, SJI, RI or Chinese High) none of which i am. Hah This prettty makes one's life at SA seem rather lonely and miserable right? Yes, it was....at least for me, not so for few hundred other CHS, RI, SJI, VS, SCGS, RGS, NYGHS, ACSi, CGS, CDGS, BPGHS, NHSS, FMSS, SNGS people i guess. Since most of them were associated with the ubiquitous and pisses-me-off clicks. They don't look at your character first, they judge you by the colour of your uniform, the name of your school, whether is it a popular school, neighbourhood school discrimination hails , private school, government school or independent school. much like how racism works, maybe we can call it schoolism. Even if you do well in your class tests or tutorials, they just shrug it off and say you're lucky. Lucky? Hahaha....what a joke. But for every bad side, there is a good side. I did have good friends, but they weren't from any of the schools named above.

They were from Commonwealth Like their name....Common-wealth for all Heh. Even though they are known to be a good school (even for the students they produce), they didn't put on airs, neither were they "click-ky". They were humble, friendly and good guys to be with Hong Rui and Johnny, thanks alot for making my life at SA bearable. They never gossiped or spoke bad of others, in other words, they weren't cynical. Few lasting friendships were forged, while others were merely confined to within the barriers of that 3 months. But hell, i'll be in CJ for the next 14 months and i'm loving every single moment of it people here respect me for who i am and what i am, obviously, schoolism doesn't take place at all, or at least i don't see it happening. Uniforms don't matter here. I love CJC, In Veritate Et Caritate! except maybe for our baby blue uniform, it irks people away. sorry to those who are staunch proponents of SA, this is just how i feel, well, if you were in my shoes, i believe you will say the same too. Especially if you hail from a neighbourhood school which others like to make puny, squish down and make irrelevant, but are proud of yourself intrinsicly. Once a saint always a Saint you proclaim? More like Once a Saint, never a Sant again

To Friends in CJC, like Ping Cheun, Clara, Aishah, Hong Gey, Mario, Ying Jie, Denyse, Sara, Ann, Chi Sheng, Hui Shan, Khusbir, Adeline, Ru Ying, Larraine and all my other Councilites, a BIG THANK YOU for making life in CJ bearable and fun.

To all my friends in Pioneer,

i just woke up from a dream.....i dreamnt all my dad's goldfishes died horrible deaths, Final Destination style Some were sucked up by the pump and blended, while others were shredded. Now that my mum is overseas, is that considered an ominous sign? I mean, fishes, especially goldfishes are supposed to be symbols and representatives of Fortune, prosperity and good luck. I'm freaking myself out. Shall stop here for the day, nitey peoples. that is if anybody actually reads my blog..hah

Hypocrisy is the weakness of humanity. Humanity may claim it acts in ways that are beneficial to mankind anf the relationships it fosters. But hell no Hypocrisy is around us and there is nothing neither you, nor i can do about it Just sock it up and throw it into the cupboard you say? Sock tat idea. Hypocrites, clique as it may sound, but they should just be vanished from this world. Cynics too....they work in tandem with eachother, hypocrites and cynics should not exists at all I agree with sara, i respect her views and philosophies, rock on Sara. you have my support.

I MISS MY MUM and i'm beginning to hate Blogger

Hell, i'm beginning to hate Blogger....the template keeps getting missing and i have to constanly repatch it from my coding back up. It stinks. This is the second time i'm typing the exact same post. This time, i'm going to save it. Hell.

You know what, Rui Shan msged me today to tell me that my blog doesn't look right on her comp.....arrgh...but it does on mine! She is like a grandmaster in HTML-ing and she did advise me a little Thanks Alot! Heh, anyways, i've re-routed the graphics to a webpage and it should start looking fine right now, if the tables aren't in place, then i guess its your IE settings. As long as it looks fine in my window, i'm not gonna care much about it. Yes, i hate blogger...it stinks...not eactly hate per say but i feel its unreliable especially since even when i choose "Save settings" the fact is...it doesn't Hell...it rather contradicts the notion that technology is supposed to make life easier obviously the notion fails and is thus render invalid in my example. Hell

My mum and cousin flew off to Macau today for a month long "pilgrimage"
of sorts. I don't know why, i miss my mummy. Heh. To exacerbate my acute sense of loneliness, when i woke up his evening, i found the house shrouded in darkness and strapped in silence, it was as if i woke up in a silent movie reel. Unmoving and callous, this environment soon metamorphed into a sense of claustrophobia, i felt asphyxicated but i couln't do anything about it. My dad went to fetch my brother back to SAFTIMI, where he is currently undergoing his final two weeks of Officer Cadet Training. I'm proud of my brother. By the way, come year end, he will be off to Sandhurst, England for a year on a millitary grant to further his Officer Cadet training there.FOC. I'm really proud of my elder brother for his accomplishments thus far.

My mum just called, but i couldn't bring myself to say that i missed her, it felt awkward..heh Some son i am.

Anyways, i was at Changi today and i saw a couple of people mugging for their exams,it feels rather liberating now that my promos are finally over while these people still have t least another week to go. Heh. While i'm baking in the light of enjoyment, they'll have to constantly mug and plough through their tutorials and notes. I'm a free spirit. Heh, but HANG IN THER GUYS! Especially to my dear councillors like Desmond, Halim, Lokky, Halima, Cozzy, Matilda, Aaron, Shiaw Yen..... it will all be over soon and we'll go Sentosa again for Council outing cum meeting.

Love you all loads, especially to you

I'm swimming in the pool of euphoria now that i've overcame my fear of HTML. Hah, WOOTS!
