Just ended 3 days of non-stop
Urban Ops in mainland.
Finally shifted to Amoy Quee camp...
Quaint old buildings and well,
nice cosy little rooms of 4 or 6 men.
Beginning to like the place alot.
Haha
*
back to Urban Ops or used to be known as FIBUA.
Ok lah, it was fun, heart races everytime you clear a room.
Especially when we go on a platoon mission to storm an entire building held
by terrorists. Haha.
Killed a couple of terrorists myself and got killed by an errant grenade tossed by a camper.
*
Talked to my buddy Vinze, about life and shared experiences,
stories, tales and our views and perspective on life.
IF there is anythign i learnt from him, its that in life,
we must be contented with what we have.
yeap =)
I am contented, good section mates, good trainning, good parents,
a good brother, good close friends.
Though the pay can be better, but overall, still sufficient for me to live
my daily expenses.
*
And to "anonymous".
I dare you to type out your name. Dun hide behind a mask
cause i hate people like you. Masquerading around behind a coawardly cover.
At least i DARE to pour out my fears and i'm not a coward
who hides behind a blog and isn't open about my life.
I know people do read and i know people do snigger or snide at it.
But at least i have the courage to publish it. =)
Be in my shoes, feel what i feel, think how i think,
see life from my side.
See whether u'll agree.
You don't understand how much effort and sweat i pull myself through,
So that i can achieve my goals in life,
make my parents proud, make my ambitions a reality.
If you yourself has never tried fighting for something you so believe in,
never giving up hope a SINGLE bit when the doors keep shutting down on you,
then you do not deserve to hide under such a cowardice mask
more so type such a remark.
You think trainning in SISPEC isn't as tough?
Its hell x 2 from where we come from.
Next time,
Think twice b4 you post such a comment.
*
Other than that, this week has been fine and
dandy, got closer to my section mates.
=) I love my section,
Garang yet caring and supportive at the same time.
Everyone has a common goal in mind. =)
Oh btw, they say 1st Guards requires Specialists.
Haha, Guards! Here i come! Ready to Strike!!

Till another time, see yah allz and take care!Labels: NS

The fear, it consumes me.
The mind, it controls me.
I want to be free, i want to feel free.
I desire to just be a normal trainee.
Desire to be the Recruit i was in BMT.
Light-hearted, happy, engaging.
Now all i see is grey, all i see is darkness.
Obsession had taken over me.
I'm obsessed about achieving my goals and dreams.
Yet, i always aim high and shoot low.
*
Good peer appriasal, good results, good assessment by Sergeants,
all washed down the drain because i cannot run fast enough.
i cannot hold my pjhysical well enough
Wasn't selected to cross-over during BMT though i was
Platoon best.
Denied once again during BSLC because of fitness.
Now ASLC< fitness comes into play again
how i wish i can just run with free abandon.
Spread my arms and run without having to worry when will my legs begin to give way.
Or wonder why it suddenly became so heavy.
*
It is undeniably disheartening when u realise that the SAF
is so superficial in its apporach at times.
They value fitness over skills and abilities at times.
How absurd is that?
*
In the battlefield, which is more important, being able to lead your men effectively,
or being able to run fast enough?
and for what? To dodge bullets?
To run away?
*
At the end of the day, it all boils down to a very superficial assessment system.
Just because we're NSFs does not mean that we are not commited to serve a cause
It just means that we're not regulars.
Thats all.
*
On a hppier note, today is Father's day and i'm gonna get my daddy a
BIG BIG cake and pay his phone bills.

Met Reynn for a movie just now.
Watched Ghost train at 2100 Hrs at Cine.
It was sorely disappointing.
i waited with anticipation for this movie, but it was literally
a train crash in my opinion.
Good plot, but very very suspect and boring execution.
It tried to pull off an unexpected twist at the end.
Tried to make the entire story seem complicated and intelligent.
But it crashed rather spectacularly, i must add.
Instead of leaving you feeling satisfied,
it left me instead, feeling disgusted at the unimaginative,
old reharshed scare tactics, weak plots, poor acting,
suspect effects and worst of all, corny scenes peppered throughout
the movie.
Some lines in the movie just made my hair stand on ends with its through
corniness.
One such example
"Life is like a train ride, the last destination is Death. *accompanied by frenzied laughter*"
(-_-)"
right.........
*
After our horrifyingly boring movie, Reynn and myself went down to Swensen's to have dinner
and chatted for the longest time about everything.
Biach-ing about people, listening to Ipod and just commenting on the weather
After that decided to watch another movie since we missed the last train home anyway.
Watched "Alot like Love" at 0300Hrs
According to Reynn, it was a very nice movie.
I will not contest to that as i was sleeping for almost 3/4 of the movie.
Haha. Intend to watch again.
Prior to the movie, during the trailers, one Jap movie,
"Be With you" caught my attention, its a very melancholic
movie, very touching...i want to watch!
My list of must-watchs
1. Be With You
2. Batman Begins
3. Alot like Love (cause i feel asleep during the show dammit)
4. Herbie?
thats about it i guess.
yeap.
*
Next week moving to Amoy Quee camp for 3 weeks. Mainland. =)
yay.
Not so bad.
*
Yeap, thats about it.
I need sleep.
*
miss you all badly. Miss my friends, miss CJ
Miss her, Miss everyone lah!

End of first week in ASLC. 10 more to go!
Tiring i must say, running the SOC till it
became a part of our normal routine.
Well, good to say that i've managed to smash my previous
SOC record timing to bits
This time with pure grit and determination.
From BMT when i used to clock 12 mins and 13 secs,
to SISPEC BSLC< whereby i clocked 10:10
Yesterday i clocked 09:12 that is jumping from a C grade
in BSLC to an A grade.
So might say that 09:12 isn't tt fantastic either condsidering that
soem are able to clock <9 mins. BUt hey,
consider how much i've managed to chop off since BSLC and BMT.
A whole 3 minutes!
*
NExt week will be filled with lots of new things to learn.
FIBUA : Fighting In Built Up Areas. ( referred to as Urban Ops now)
Watermanship
Heliborne Ops : Which will see us riding a real
chinook in a few weeks time.
*
Will be shifting to Amoy Quee camp at the end of next week for the
following 3 weeks. It is just a str8 bus homw from
there and a str8 bus to Deb's place as well.
Perhaps can meet her for dinner when i have my first night's out
Hehehe.
*
Oh well, thats all for this week i guess.
Bravo Coy is a tough Coy to be in, very strict,
very regimentalised, full of regulars and elite sodliers.
Tough...very tough.
*
But i will make it through.
I know i will
because...
i'm Alan Phua.
and no one or nothing beats me down that easily.
Heh

I absolutely love this song. This will be my theme song for ASLC.
Yeap, i do have theme songs for challenges in my life.
Haha.
*
Well, i'm now no longer PTE. Phua,
i'm now CPL. Phua.
Yeap, BSLC is over, passed out on my birthday.. =)
So whats in stored you ask?
Well, Adavnced Section Leader Course (ASLC).
The course that will get me my Sergeant Rank.
Haha
*
For those wondering, yes, i got shortlisted for crossover
Only 5 out of 130+ guys were shortlisted in my Coy
I am SUPPOSED to go OCS.
In fact, my results and assessment made me more than qualified to crossover.
Even i managed to impress my OC and CO during the interview.
My OC said to me after the interview
"It is undeniable that you spoke the best during the interview, amongst
all the other candidates you were the best."
Ah frig, but why did i not crossover?
Well, the CO had doubts about my fitness, so they posted me to ASLC
for a second shot at it after 11 weeks.
And this time i intend to grab it and tenciously
hold on without letting go.
*
For my efforts in BSLC, i got Platoon Best.
Haha

*
It is bittersweet i must say, knowing that
i am one of the best in the entire cohort, yet because of fitness,
i'm unable to achieve my aim.
So its an amalgation of happiness and sadness.
But overall i've been satisfied with my performance during BSLC.
*
So more about ASLC,
yeap, it is physically more demanding, mentally more taxing,
but its touted as one of the most fun courses in the whole of SAF.
They say we'll have lots of fun...hmmm....OKAY...
The highlight of this course is that we'll be going ROC (Taiwan) at the
end of 6 weeks for a 3 weeks training program. Cool eh.
In between, we'll have things like M203, Demolitions live firings.
A 22Km round island run...hmmm, yea and i got my Beret already.
Like FINALLY, after 6 months. Haha
YAY.
*
So i celebrated my brithday while on my Graduation 32Km route March.
We walked till our legs got sore throughout the night.
From 7pm till 0530 the next day. It was fun, yet tiring.
but it really pushed much of our mental strength.
To overcome the tiredness, we had to just keep soldiering forward.
Thereafter, upon reaching Coy line, we only had about an hour to
rest before we proceeded to the Schoolfield for
the Parade.
This is the Cert all of us recieved, apart from our Chevrons.:)

*
But i guess the best part of my week, wasn't the route march,
nor getting my Chevrons.
But rather, having a wonderful dinner with 3 of my bestest pals.
Deborah! Rui! and YOHAN! at Cineleisure.
It was not bad, food wise and ambience wise. Haha, we had tons of fun..
especially when it came to the ice-cream part. =)

Me, Deborah, Rui and Yohan, in the midst of burning our food

in the midst of devouring an Ebi shrimp...notice the tail sticking out..haha
*
Oh well, that kinda wrapped up my week. Next week course starts,
gonna be one hell of a painful experience. But as always,
i will always do my best to achieve what i want in life.
*
OCS, though however elusive you are.
I will still make it.
A Failure is never final, when you begin again with the end on mind
