Not much time to blog as i'm in the midst of shifting house.

All i can say for now is that

1) I've been selected to go fo a Platoon Sergeant Course, i'm gonna be a PS in 1 Guards. My Course starts on the 7th and ends on the 15th of Dec.

2) I've ended my 2 weeks of GCC, 4 more to go. =)

3) I miss a certain someone, but i think i'll just keep it this way. Don't want to be a nuisance.

4) I'm Company 2IC for the whoel of next week. Sianzz.. IC must be a Officer, the 2IC is incharged of the Specs and the other matters of the Coy.

*

Thats about it.

For now..will blog more l8r.

1 week down, 4 more to go to my Khaki Beret!!

Back from my first week of GCC. Hmm, what can i say apart from the fact that it didn't turn out to be as tough or as demanding as i envisioned it to be. All the horror stories and nagging thoughts of midnight 2am turn outs turned out to be false. No turn outs were attempted, not much tekaning sessions, apart from Lake Rancid.

First day was literally ZBL - (Zhor bo lan) just admin after admin, settling of stores, settling down of the officers in their new bunks etc. Then it was time for the orientation run for the officers, whihc we as specs have to go for as well. Ran about 4++ Km, then if i rem correctly that was about it for the day.

Second day, had swim in the morning, but because i tot i had a medical appointment, i skipped that. but it does not make any difference as i've already passed my 2Km swim test during UIP. In the evening IPPT, exempted myself from it becuase of my wrist injury. But still did all the other stations less the pull up one.

Wednesday was the worst day of the week, while the officers were having thier 6Km fast march, those Specs who have already passed the 12Km fast march test were required to do a thorough and complete area cleaning of the bunks and the surrounding vicinity. We had 3 stand bys of which all were peppered with back crawling along the corridor, leopard crawling among the dirt and dust and doing countless (uncountable actually) push ups. By the third stand by, the Sergeant in charged of area inspection, 1SG Sadali (We call him Sgt. Sang Nila Utama) threatened us with Lake Rancid.

Most of our push ups were done on the carpark, where the gravel and stones ate into your skin, under the hot afternoon sun. My palms were burnt, red and bruised from the countless Marine Pushups we had to do (push up with the body and legs ram-rod straight, done wide armed).

Then the crunch time came, after the officers came, we were instructed to help the officers do their area cleaning, and to do ours as well. We did, and we failed majestically. So it was off to Lake Rancid.

Fell in FBO behind Coy line, Water sprayed on us, getting us all drenched and wet. Then as a course, we had to leopard crawl thorugh a few obstacles, through mud, sand, water, grass and what have yous thrown at you.. We were semula-ed about 2 times in total for not doing it properly. After the leopard crawl, we had to fall in in prone position, then back crawl under the rapelling tower, through the sand pit, in FBO (Helmet, Webbing field pack). It was shagging. When it ended, all of us were tired, sandy and feeling absolutely shitty. But the activity somewhat gelled the officers and the specs. We ended on a high note though, which was good i guess.

Then came night. We had night PT which consisted of the Guards Circuit. A Race between two details of mixed men (i.e Specs and Officers). it consists of a 600M rundown to the PT station in vest slack, there we had to do the monkey bar, however, every alternate bar, we had to do one pull up. Fall or do it incorrectly, SEMULAH! While waiting for the trainees to do (3 at a time), the rest of the detail have to do jumping jacks, the key was non-stop motion. Once all cleared the station, we ran another about 400M to the parade square and did the Iguana Crawl a modified push up which is hard to explain in words. Just that we had to Iguana crawl across the parade square. Once again, the rest had to do Jumping Jacks. Once all cleared, we had to run roughly about 1.2 Km back to company line in cadence.

The incentive was that the team which came back first will not have to do the forfeit which is 20 counts of 4 Marine Push ups(40 in total). But as a course integrity, all of us did it anyway, regardless whether we won or lost. The Cadres used this chance to give us more than 80++ Marines, constantly semulah-ing us for the minorest of mistakes, i.e: Butts up, not counting out loudly, not doing together. Throughout the 3 days, i shouted so much that i've completely lost my voice.

I expect more guards Circuit to come as it is only the first week.

*

It will only get tougher from now on, more PT, more Runs, more tekanings, more Lake Rancid. Buts its ok, SISPEC training has hardened and Jaded me against such sessions. i'll take whatever they throw at me, i'll gladly chew it up and spit it back out. =) I'm am afterall, a Specialist of the Singapore Army and It is my job to overcome adversity with my fighting spirit.

Warning! A potentially tear-jerking post as i reminicise on my JC life. Before you carry on, prepare a box of tissue paper to prevent getting your keyboard and/or table wet. Do not come looking for me for tissue paper, guys never use tissue paper. They use their sleeves.

****

ok i'll keep this short, cause i need to sleep since tomorrow GCC goes into full swing.

Yesterday was one hell of a blast! Went back to CeeJayCee for the first Open house in years! Personally i felt that it could do better considering how "Hip and Exciting" Bro. Paul made CJ out to be. =P Got in touch with a few juniors, Cheryl, ShiYin, Jon, KaiYin, LiYing etc. I must say, eventhough they may be J2s now, somehow, we as seniors, will always treat them and see them as our Juniors. =) And not to mention that Shiyin looks cuter now too. lol. My muse~

Anyway, visited the new PAC, its FANTABULOUS! Its something CJ has been lacking all the while. And the new PAC Piazza, its big and so beautiful, not to mention that the Gym is also fantastic =)

*

After that had lunch with my council peeps at PastaMania, Des, Aaron (who drove us around), Rena anbd Jiang.

Had my old time favourite, Vongole with white wine sauce =P Brought back memories when i ate at the Toa Payoh branch as i had one before last year, after one of our prelim papers (MC9233 was what it was!). We even sat at the same table. But that time i ate it with Des (still..) Loke and Halim.

I even have photos of that fateful day

I sat where Des sat last year.

Des and I...can't rem is it before or after the meal. Should be before i think..

Hallmark of a good vongole meal. Polished plates and cleaned off shells. =P Still the same year in year out My plate is always polished off clean =)

Loke taking a picture of me taking a picture of him taking a picture of me taking a picture of him of me taking a picture of him taking a picture of him......and so it goes on..

Army has made me realise how much time has flown on by. Reading my archives and going back Cj has really made me open my eyes to how time has slipped by me without me knowing. In a blink of an eye, JC is over, my As are over, and now another year is gonna whizze by. Makes me kinda sad that in this 10 months, i've lost touch with some of my old self, through my incessant and die-hard attitude towards my ambitions in the military. As such, i've not realised what i've lost, what i've gained, what i've forgotten and what i've come to know.

Its weird now that when i look back at my posts during my Prelim/A level period that i now fully understood how childish and immature, albeit hurt and crazy i was.

But still, i respected myself of then that i could have so much energy and tenacity to routinely follow my arduous and no less intensive study regime day in day out, week in week out. Now whenever i step into Changi Airport, i cannot help but reminicise myself doing maths sums, reading up my Bio text, eating my Chicken sandwich and falling alseep on the airport floors, feeling like a total vagabond. The subsequent sunrise(always very beautiful) and the slow morning walk down to the bus bay to take the shuttle servcie towards Woodlands regional library, all the while looking all drab and lifeless. Hahaha. Memories.

I really really really miss JC life, its innocence, its perks, the friends, my council, Bro. Paul, Mrs. Loke, my classmates. Only now do i realise how much i actually took them all for granted when i was in JC, always complainign about how much work i had to do, how much studying needed to be done, but i knew i always took it in my stride. Now that i lack those, i really do wish that for a day, even for a day only, i could wake up, put on my CJ blue uniform, pin on my council badge that i pin on with so much pride everyday, heave up my bag and walk out of the door into the twilight sunrise. Maybe add in the rushing part, as i'm always on the verge of being late from school.

These are jewels and facets of life that once gone, will never come back. Like sand, once it slips away, all that u're left with will be what u'll have for a lifetime - memories.

*

Anyway, after CJ open house, went to meet up with my 2E1 classmates. Had a great dinner and caught up with lots of peeps, especially Janice. Shes in SIM now and couldn't be more better now that she is coping well. I guess. Everyone still looks the same, acts the same and talks the same. Nothing much has changed in the last 4 years i guess. We're all still Secondary 2 kids at heart. =)

I will blog more about it once i get the pics from Sheryl and Janice.

Alright, GCC starts in a few hours time, its time to look forward again to what is ahead of me. All the best Alan. =)

Guards HOOHAH!

.:Friday, October 07, 2005:.

Did guard duty last night, first time in Dieppe Barracks. Lol. Quite standard actually, nothing much happened. Just that i didn't get to sleep much.

Was on duty from 1800 Hrs till 0400 Hrs, then slept only for about 2 hours before i had to wake up to raise the Flag at the Parade Square. Then was on morning duty from 0600 till 0800 Hrs. Lol, check bags, check handphone, reprimand people for improper attire and/or not wearing headress etc. lol.

Was quite disappointed that nothing really exciting happened during my duty shift. Was expecting some armed millitants to force their way into the camp and go on a killing rampage, but nadaa...nothing happned, zilch. Not even a single stray animal or bird bothered to fly in. All that was exciting was this long trail of ants that i played with., using the IR scanner to radiate them. Haha, they didnt die though.

Then the midnight prata....sinfully delightful, but...urgh, made me sick lah.

Sinfully good. Chocolate Prata from Casuarina. =P

*

Took some pictures to kill the boredom as well.

Taken during the wee hours of the night. Super bored, nothing much happened, except tt i played with some ants crawling up and down the Guard house walls..

My fellow Guards all fell asleep...*notice the drab and run down condition of the Guardroom

Ditto...

Note the Marksman badge. lol, i just sewed it on that day. =P

*

Came home from duty at about 9 plus, then struggled to keep awake, played some games then fell alseep. urgh, i wanted to go exercise, but too tired i guess.

Haha, so now i'm fully awake and energized. But still, lazy to go for a run. hahaha.

*

Woots, tomorrow is CeeJay open house! Gonna meet up with all my council peeps, have fun and enjoy myself! Then meetign up with 2E1 peeps for class gathering at Marina. Gonna be Fun fun fun!Woohah!

.:Wednesday, October 05, 2005:.

Last friday i had my ATP (Advanced Trainfire Package) test, and i'm now a certified Class 1 Marksman, hitting 35/40. To get Marksman, you'll need 32/40. For my day shoot, i shot 19/24 (my best being 21/24) and for night, i shot a Perfect 16/16. Hehe, Top scorer for both the Day and night shoot, what can i say, i'm good. =P

By right, my Unofficial top score will be 37/40, adding my best Day score of 21 to my pefect 16 for night.

So right now, i'm a MARKSMAN!!

I get to pin this on my uniform!

In the entire course, there are only 3 marksman and i'm honoured to be one of them. The other two being Shu Qi, my BMT bunkmate and Wong Kian Foong, my current 1 GDS bunkmate. =) Positive Influence?? Maybe, haha.

*

I slept in the hall through the night and for a while it rained very very heavily and with the window slightly open, i could hear the furor of the pelting rain. Somehow, it brought me back to my training days in Taiwan during Ex. Warrior, the smell of the rain, fierce irregular tappings of the pelting rain on the window, the thunder, flashes of light. As i lay semi-alseep on the couch, i thought i found myself being atop Liverpool objective, under my Basha, all wet, ahivering and feeling utter misery. After Taiwan, i'm scared of rain, its true. I never ever want to be caught in the path of a typhoon anymore, to get whacked left, right center by its trail.

*

Have to go back camp soon to bring my stuff over to Bravo. Hmm, been binging alot, i don't know why, i'm always hungry. Urgh.

.:Monday, October 03, 2005:.

I need a new direction in my life..hmm, i seem lost.

*

Got discharged from hospital yesterday, was in pain for one whole night, so much so that i had to be admitted to CGH on Sat night. Luckily no surgery had to be performed on me. I really do no know how it happened, i was just having dinner when it suddenly hurt. Was quite shocked so i went online to do some research and check up on the condition. I was stunned. Requested my dad to bring me to the Hosp ASAP, and so he did.

Went in for initial diagnosis, doctors were unsure what was it, admitted me inmmediately into the ward whereby a Specialist would further attend to me to acertain my condition

After his initial diagnosis, he did not conclusively rule out the feared condition. But kept a rather open opinion about it. Whipped me off for Ultrasound, which further provided solid evidence that it wasnt the feared condition. Thus, i escaped Surgery. =P

Gave me medicine and i fell asleep at around 0430. Woke up at 0600Hrs by the nurse to go for Xray to rule out any stones. Nothing was found.

Took more medicine and fell asleep soon after.

*

Woke up, got discharged. One scary night whereby my future (literally) hung (ahem...) in the balance. LOL.
