Seriously.....
What is wrong with the youths of today? On my way home i saw two youths wearing the SAF number 4 pants altered to look like 3-quarters. I mean, come on! Get a life! Of all fabrics, why the #4? ITS AN INSULT TO THE SAF!
These kids who are most likely only to be in secondary school, do not understand and realise how important the SAF uniform is. IT IS AFTERALL A UNIFORM. It embodies and identifies the SAF. It is characteristic of the SAF.
To the untrained eye, the pants may seem like any other run-off-the-mill psuedo-army camo pants, but upon closer inspection, it is infact the SAF fabric. It is undeniable. The SAF fabric has a distinct look, pattern and colour to it. It is not too hard to miss.

I would like to question these youths, what makes them so special that they can alter these pants that people like us, who have trained hard in them, perspired in them, suffered in them and served our country in them. What is it for? FASHION? You call DISGRACING the SAF Uniform a FASHION statement?
WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO THE YOUTHS OF TODAY?
Just the other day, i saw a M** wearing the SAF jockey cap paired with some cheap t-shirt and tapered pants (so typical right), again it brings into question the minds of these youths. I mean, these are UNIFORMS. They identify the Army, they are PART and PARCEL of the army as an organisation that fights to serve and protect the nation and here they are, downplaying its importance, making a MOCKERY of the ONE Thing that identifies the Army?
I may seem like i'm ranting or making a big fuss out of nothing, but let me put it into perspective. Say you have a uniform, your school's for example and one day, as a fashion statement, someone Disfigures your uniform as part of a "Fashion Trend" how would you feel? Happy? Disgusted? Irritated?
I know i would feel utterly disgusted, humiliated, insulted and upset. WHY? Heres why.
You wear the uniform as an acceptance of the organisation as part of your life, you identify with it, you protect it, and you identify its values, thus you do not go around disfiguring it or wearing it around. It is an insult and a disgrace to the uniform that many of us don with pride everyday. (i know i speak for the minority, i am part of the minority).
I've seen the pants especially disfigured in ways i cannot accept. Some have added zips to make it look goth like, most altered it to look like 3/4s. But the fact remains that this is a uniform. It is a sacred piece of apparel that people don to protect the country. It is not just some toy that you can play around with. It signifies, embodies and identifies an organisation.
To those who have not yet served your NS, you may think its cool, but we, who have served find it stupid, ludicrous and a total insult to US and the organisation that we fight for.

I'm sure there are many other camo patterns out there, so leave the SAF #4 alone.

I love the #4 for what it stands for, that it is THE one thing which unifies all soldiers, regardless of rank, race, status or background. The BG of the Army wears it everyday, so does the lowly Private or Recruit. In the jungle it hides us from the enemy, it protects us from the weather, the sun, the mud, the gravel, the sand and the grass that we plough on. It identifies us as the protectors of this nation we call home. We don't go humiliating it, if we do, we're in fact humiliating ourselves.
I am saddened, i am totally saddened that people will go to such extents to look "cool" thinking that it identifies them with the Organisation and that in turn it might make them look "macho" "cool" and "manly". To which i give a BIG PFFFTTTT.... to. You have no right to do such a thing to the uniform, especially those bengs and mats who think that it is cool to wear disfigured #4s with ear-rings, spiked hair and what nots. It is a disgrace, it is an insult, it is a totally unacceptable way to treat the uniform.

I feel so pissed that people actually do this. GET A LIFE ALL YOU YOUTHS OF TODAY. Listening to hip-hop or embracing Gangster music will NOT get you far in life, neither will acting tough or trying to be ghetto stars bring in the moolah for you to lead a comfortable and sensible life. WAKE UP AND GET A LIFE!
