Anybody remembers these childhood heroes?

The days when Singapore football was all the rage,

unbeatable, they were the equivalent of what Man Utd or Real Madrid is

to the youngsters today.

*

Back in the days when Kallang Stadium will be filled to the brim with

Singaporean fans dressed in Red, without the organisers having to ask.

The days when the Nat. Stadium will erupt in deafening cheers

when the likes of Fandi,

Abbas Saad, Lee Man Hom, Steven Tan,

Lim Tong Hai or Abdul malek

scored a goal.

Or when David Lee pulled a superb save in front of the net.

Back in the days when Singaporeans will proudly don the Jersey and flaunt it

to the visitors.

Back in the days when the Kallang Wave was done spontaneously...

when visiting teams from M'sia will shudder at the sight of the Proud Lions

and

when Keropok chips were never used as projectiles to be thrown at the

Lions.

Back in the days when Singapore won almost every game

and Singaporeans will travel in gargantuous groups to stadiums in

M'sia to support the Lions if they were in the finals (which was quite common)

*

I vividly remember being part of one such group that filled an

entire train enroute to Shah Alam Stadium,

for the FAM Premier League Finals of 1994.

And waiting an entire night to leave the stadium,

because it was fully packed with Singaporean fans,

from all walks of life,

all races,

all religions,

but bounded by one dream, one goal, one ambition.

To see Singapore lift the Malaysia Cup

*

The pride, the memories, the legacy,

have all disappeared.

Now what are left with are just memories of the once

great and indestructable,

Lions of Singapore.

Sad.

Give me back those memories once again.
